Using Lemon Grass as Mosquito Repellent in Tanzania

Background

Malaria is a life threatening disease caused by parasite that is transmitted to people through the bites of infected female anopheles mosquito. It is preventable and curable. The statistic shows that in 2017, there were an estimated 219 million cases of malaria deaths in 87 countries. This disease affects much infant’s children below five years age, pregnant women and patients with HIV/AIDS. Tanzania is the third largest population at risk of malaria in Africa, overall 90% of population live in areas where there is malaria in Tanzania, each year 10 to 12 millions of people contract malaria and 800,00 die from malaria, most of them are children. The goal of this project to reduce the number of people who suffer from malaria especially pregnant women and children below five years especially in sub-Saharan countries.

Objective

  • To supply mosquito repellent in all areas where there is a health centers so as to assure that all people get to use them at right time and reduce infant death by 10-50%
  • To establish farms for growing plants used for the extraction of repellents in all regions of Tanzania. 20-40%
  • Ensuring that, all people use mosquito repellent which are safe for their skin health and reproductive health of women, because some repellents manufactured chemically, that is very risk to our health, some people get headache because of engaging in using those type of repellents. 60-70%
  • To establish training center in all area of Tanzania, especially in rural areas whereby training, education related to malaria and its preventive will be provided just for freely per every month to all citizen mainly pregnant women and infant children. 40-60%
  • Provide employment opportunity to the youth in Tanzania.70-100%
